IF
ONLY - HONEST GROOVES FROM THE HEART OF A MELBOURNE BOY
With years of experience in music composition and production under
his belt, Melbourne-based musician, Simon Lewis, has finally stepped
into the spotlight as a singer-songwriter, with the release of his
bands debut EP, IF ONLY.
Beautifully arranged, irresistibly honest and melodic, the songs and
arrangements are the creation of a musical craftsman, who has a background
in contemporary jazz, film scores, as well as ambient music (six releases
to date). Deceptively simple, the music style is a sophisticated melding
of complex, multi-instrumental textures that are a hybrid of electronic/folk/world
pop.
The new EP reflects a young Australian persons life, interweaving
sentiments of dreams, travel, freedom, and love. SL was inspired to
start singing for his own compositions during a trip backpacking around
the world several years ago. While Ive always wanted to
create my own sound, Id been consistently shy about coming forward
to actually sing to my music. Then I thought, stuff it, Im going
to do this, Lewis said.
One of the songs on the EP The Sum is a musical representation
of an Aussie backpackers journal, and was written in the Swiss
Alps. And the song that the EP was named after, If Only is a
very catchy piano-driven anthem for Lewis passion for getting
off your arse and living your life.
